Town Meeting appeals to me because it covers everything from zoning to schools to the Charter. Reading the town warrant provides a comprehensive education that I don’t get just from watching Select Board, School Comm., Finance Comm., Zoning Board, Community Planning and Dev., Conservation Comm., or even serving on the RMLD Board of Commissioners- and I do watch them. Town Meeting is as diverse as the number of residents who attend and I appreciate the opportunity to participate if elected.

I became involved with TM three years ago upon being directly impacted by 40R development. I'm learning! The homes of the downtown area were not given usual 10-15' residential setbacks. Over decades, the downtown had been rezoned Business B. Residences in Business B are given a setback of zero feet. Zero. Upholding & enhancing the vibrancy, charm and history of the downtown area needs to evolve in concert with future 40R development. The story of Reading is over 375 years old. It's a great one!

I recently became a Reading resident with my wife and want to play an active role in the betterment of the town. As we look to the future and make decisions that will impact our town, I believe that it is critical to engage in thoughtful debate and understand all perspectives on each and every topic in order to make an informed decision. I am committed to not be blinded by political affiliation or historical biases and instead will make decisions for the betterment of Reading.

I feel strongly about supporting RPS and ensuring the town continues to provide a high standard of services to all residents.

I have been honored to have been able to serve on Town Meeting for the last several years, and hope to continue in this capacity. Town meeting is one of the most direct forms of democracy that exist. It allows the Town’s residents direct oversight over the way our tax dollars are spent. As a resident of Reading for the past 10 years and a father of an 11 year-old and an 8 year-old enrolled in the RPS, I am committed to making fiscally responsible decisions that benefit the Town as a whole.

  • Keri Fox

I moved to Reading 19 yrs ago and raised my family here. I am so grateful that my children were able to grow up in this town that I love and now call home. As a TMM my main goals are to make certain that every person feels valued and represented in our community and I want to ensure that Reading is able to grow through productive spending and smart growth and development.

I’m a 16 year resident of Reading and hope to receive your vote for town meeting! I’ve been a town meeting member for 5+ years, on the Recreation Committee for 3+ years and spent dozens and dozens of seasons coaching soccer, basketball, baseball and lacrosse. Giving back to our community is a privilege and a role that I take seriously. Thank you!

  • Erin Gaffen

I’m a 16 year Reading resident, raising 3 kids here. I serve as a School Committee member (2yr) and on TM (3yr). I volunteer extensively with the schools and other groups. I believe in giving back to my community. Reading gives my family so much, especially the wonderful friends and neighbors, excellent schools, and many resources in town. As a TM member I strive to carefully consider each vote, listen to and learn from others, and help ensure Reading is a safe and welcoming community for all.

I am an 8 year member of Town Meeting. I am running to continue working with Town Meeting to improve the lives of all residents. My priorities on Town Meeting are: 1) Maintain our strong fiscal position; 2) Help support and improve RPS; 3) Encourage non-residential tax base growth; 4) Conserve open space and forests; and 5) Improve Reading’s efforts on inclusion and social justice. I broadly support the Killam school and Senior Center projects. Professionally, I have a background in finance.

  • Michelle Greenwalt

I’ve served on school councils at Parker and RMHS and on Town Meeting since 2018. I volunteer on the Board at Meadow Brook & with the YMCA Bluefins. We are in a financially positive position thanks to an override & thoughtful spending by officials, but pandemic related supply chain issues, inflation & rising interest rates can quickly impact our cash balance. As a TM member I believe that we need to carefully manage spending, support our schools & work together for the benefit of all residents.

I care about Reading's future as a resident & parent of 3 children in our public schools. I served as a Town Meeting Member in Precinct 7 from 2015-2021 & served as Chair in 2021 until I moved to Precinct 4. I helped create “Town Meeting 101” (a virtual/in-person training) with our Town Moderator & other Town Meeting Members. I have volunteered in our schools, on other committees; & I serve on the Alumni Board at my alma mater. I run a public speaking club for women & I am a lawyer.

My wife Kristen and I have called Reading home since 1998, and I have been heavily involved in youth sports and other volunteer opportunities, including being on the planning committees for the Joshua Eaton playground, the Sturges Park playground & Master Plan Committee for Sturges Park.

I joined Town Meeting in 2020 for a few simple reasons…to stay involved, with the hopes of helping Reading keep its small town feel, maintain its excellent schools & remain financially strong.

  • Emily James

A current Town Meeting member and parent of 3 young children, I hope to continue representing Precinct 4 as a voice in favor of supporting and strengthening our schools, our downtown, and our community so Reading remains a town we are all proud to live in and where all feel welcome. I serve as Community Service Co-Chair for the Joshua Eaton PTO, spent 3 years as a member of the Women's League of Reading, and served as Precinct 4 Captain for the successful Yes for Reading campaign in 2018.

I’m an LICSW—I counsel seniors with developmental disabilities. I’m a mom of a JE 4th grader and 3-year-old. I’ve volunteered as a room parent and done everything I can to support school staff as they’ve kept our kids educated and enlightened in challenging times. We support our public library and the local businesses which are making Reading a more accepting and inclusive place. I seek the chance to help work toward the brightest future for our neighborhood and Reading as a Town Meeting member.

My name is Mary Christine Kwiatek Paxton. I grew up in Reading and my husband TJ and I recently bought a home here so that we could raise our two young children in the town we love and send them to the schools that made an indelible impact on my life. I offer a unique perspective as I graduated from RPS, taught at RMHS, and am now a parent here. I know and care deeply about this town and will voice your concerns as we honor Reading’s past, celebrate its present, and plan for its future.

I've been a Reading Precinct 4 resident since 2012, and I founded a marketing analytics business, Thought Labs, that's been headquartered in Reading since 2006. I have 2 young children that will soon attend Reading public schools and I would like to be more involved in their education. I'm also interested on improving the town, its local businesses, and its policies while driving a more open and level-headed discussion of the issues Reading faces.

  • Annika Scanlon

My husband and I have lived in Reading since 2003. We have 3 teens in public schools. I have volunteered extensively at the schools and on the Conservation Commission over the past 15 years and am passionate about striking the right balance between town needs and environmental protection. I am a professional geologists working at a local engineering company, evaluating and solving problems at hazardous waste sites. I welcome honest discourse respectful debate. Thank you

  • Elizabeth Shurland

I grew up in Reading and my father was involved in town government for well over 15 years. I left to get an education and start a family and came back to raise my family. I own a business in town and am dedicated to giving back to this great place! I feel strongly that town government should support all its citizens in an equitable, welcoming environment. I want to be part of town meeting because I want to support this great local democracy which we inherited.

I have been a resident of Reading since 1989 and have been honored to be a Town Meeting Member for well over 15 years. I served on the Library Building Committee and am currently a member of the Permanent Building Committee. Reading has been and continues to be a wonderful place to raise a family because of its commitment to its schools and its long standing goal of fiscal responsibility. I ask for your vote so that I can continue to be a voice for these values!
