Precinct 4

Moderator

(pick 1)

  • Alan E Foulds

My charge as Moderator is to conduct the legislative business of the community fairly and legally, assuring that all sides of any given issue are heard in an efficient manner. It is important that everyone who has an opinion be allowed to speak, all the while making sure that the body as a whole can reach its decisions in a timely manner. I have served as a moderator for the last 26 years, and I hope to continue serving in the role to help guide the body in whatever direction it chooses.

Since March 2020, Reading has faced enormous health, social and financial challenges. Both via Zoom and in person, it has been my privilege to provide the collaborative, thoughtful leadership to keep us safe, encourage economic development, support our schools, reduce our climate impact and set a course for the Reading of tomorrow. In this unprecedented time in our history, Reading needs experienced leadership to accomplish outstanding community goals such as a new Killam School, achieving carbon neutrality, solutions for our Seniors, and maintaining fiscal health.

School Committee

(pick 2)

  • Erin E Gaffen

I’m seeking re-election to a 3-year seat on the School Committee. Our schools have come a long way since March 2020, and they are stronger. There have been many positive changes in programming, staffing, and curriculum. I'm proud of the work that the SC has accomplished together, and I'm hopeful about the conversations and ideas being explored for the future. There is more work to be done to continue to move RPS forward, and to ensure our schools are safe and supportive learning environments where all students can thrive. With your support, I look forward to being a part of the next three years.

As a member of the Reading Library Board of Trustees, I'll promote access to knowledge, education, and cultural enrichment for all, and work to ensure the library has the resources to maintain it. I'll support literacy, critical thinking, and digital literacy initiatives to help people navigate our data-centric world. I strive to create an inclusive and diverse space and foster community-building partnerships, while bringing a moderate perspective and commitment to the library's vibrant future.

Town Meeting - Precinct 4

(pick 8)

  • Marlena Bita (Incumbent)

Town Meeting appeals to me because it covers everything from zoning to schools to the Charter. Reading the town warrant provides a comprehensive education that I don’t get just from watching Select Board, School Comm., Finance Comm., Zoning Board, Community Planning and Dev., Conservation Comm., or even serving on the RMLD Board of Commissioners- and I do watch them. Town Meeting is as diverse as the number of residents who attend and I appreciate the opportunity to participate if elected.

  • Keri D Fox (Incumbent)

I moved to Reading 19 yrs ago and raised my family here. I am so grateful that my children were able to grow up in this town that I love and now call home. As a TMM my main goals are to make certain that every person feels valued and represented in our community and I want to ensure that Reading is able to grow through productive spending and smart growth and development.

  • Jenifer Cummings Hillery (Incumbent)

I care about Reading's future as a resident & parent of 3 children in our public schools. I served as a Precinct 7 Town Meeting Member from 2015-2021 (Chair in 2020-2021) and in Precinct 4 from 2022-2023 (Chair). Along with our Town Moderator and other Town Meeting Members, I helped create “Town Meeting 101” (a virtual/in-person training). I volunteer in our schools and serve on the Alumni Board at my alma mater. I run a public speaking club for women & am a lawyer by background.

  • Lindsey S Monahan (Incumbent)

I’m an LICSW—I counsel seniors with developmental disabilities. I’m a mom of a JE 4th grader and 3-year-old. I’ve volunteered as a room parent and done everything I can to support school staff as they’ve kept our kids educated and enlightened in challenging times. We support our public library and the local businesses which are making Reading a more accepting and inclusive place. I seek the chance to help work toward the brightest future for our neighborhood and Reading as a Town Meeting member.

  • Annika MW Scanlon (Incumbent)

My husband and I have lived in Reading since 2003. We have 3 teens in public schools. I have volunteered extensively at the schools and on the Conservation Commission over the past 15 years and am passionate about striking the right balance between town needs and environmental protection. I am a professional geologists working at a local engineering company, evaluating and solving problems at hazardous waste sites. I welcome honest discourse respectful debate. Thank you
